Attn: H/D fic help

...the whole five of you who would even click on a Harry/Draco fic, much less read one:

I seem to have found . . . 45,000 words worth of a crack, massive, lame, embarrassing H/D WIP on my hard drive that I don't see myself finishing, and yet every time I check it, filled with innocent bewilderment, the word count goes up another 5,000 or so.

I was wondering whether any of the <5 of you could:
a. explain to me how this got on my hard drive,
b. read it and help me,
c. shoot me now,
d. hold my hand and pet it while I dissolve into tears of despair and self-loathing, while not letting anyone involved in Jossverse know,
e. all of the above.

Wow, that's a lot of H/D feek!

*holds your hand*

I know so little about the fandom, I don't think I would be much help at all.

Except...you should write Ron/Draco. I mean, how well does that work? Really well!

...That's not helping, is it?

♥ Ron/Draco! ♥

Yeah, this stuff just comes out of...I don't know where. But thanks!

Ron/Draco, Harmione/Draco, and Harry/Draco all amuse me endlessly, because I can't decide which hates Draco the most and which Draco hates the most. A fun thing about Harry/Draco is forcing Draco, Hermione and Ron to be friends. Aww.

Then you ABSOTIVELY must read Gravidy's "Afterimages" which is, I kid you not, a really well done, absolutely believable fic that is ultimately Ron/Harry/Hermione/Draco. Told from Draco's point of view. It is about as far removed from fluff as you can get, and although the author is primarily a Hermione/Draco shipper, one of the hottest scenes is when an imprisoned Draco, who frelling well loathes and despises Ron, nevertheless gives him a toe-curlingly hot kiss in order to kiss the taste of Harry out of Ron's mouth into his own. Of course, they don't actually end up as friends....http://colouredgrey.contraveritas.com/viewstory.php?sid=1246

As to help with your little H/D problem...can't do more than hold your hand and murmur sympathetically. I seem to have accumulated two novel length DM/HG fics on my own harddrive, along with about half a dozen shorter stories...heaven help me. How do these things happen?

Oh, awesome, thanks for the rec!

I seem to have accumulated two novel length DM/HG fics on my own harddrive, along with about half a dozen shorter stories...heaven help me. How do these things happen?

Why, Margot!!! Eeeeeeeeeee! I want to reeeeeead. The thing is, I *hated* Draco, and was disgusted with HP fandom's fascination with him. Then all the sudden--BAM--I don't know how it happened, but I was all over the place with my Draco-love. I *love* to see him paired with any one of the trio, these days, because like I said, he hates them so much, and they hate him.

How do these things happen?

I have no idea. But can I tell you how glad I am they happen to other people, too? Eek. I hope you're willing to share those fics, someday.

Of course you hated Draco at first. In the first five books, he wasn't just an annoying little toad, he was a *caricature* of an annoying little toad, a paper tiger whose sole purpose was to make Harry look good. He would make veiled threats, and Harry would knock him down a peg or ten every single time. But he was entirely two-dimensional, the stock-character spoiled-brat bully.

Then, suddenly, in the sixth book, he became three dimensional. We quickly found that the threat he posed wasn't just all hot air, and bluster. He does real damage to Harry before we even get to Hogwarts. And, that isn't happening in a vacuum. Draco suddenly became sympathetic. The scene in which he's so damned alienated he's taken to confiding in Moaning Myrtle of all people (or ghosts) is pretty shocking, when you think about it. And, that confrontation between Draco and Dumbledore...Dumbledore spells it out pretty clearly: Draco has become a Death Eater because he feels he has no choice, because he's trying to protect his mother...but his heart really, really, REALLY isn't in it.

Well, that's how I became a Draco fan, anyway. As to how I became a DM/HG fan...it started when I was looking over at the Ship Manifesto community for things about Buffy and Angel, or Angelus, or Spike, and I came across a zillion HP manifestos, none of which interested me until I saw one for Lucius and Hermione, the mere concept of which was SO INCREDIBLY WRONG that I just had to read the manifesto. Which sold me on that pairing. Only, there's vanishingly little LM/HG fic out there, and only a handful of LM/HG fic of real quality. But, while you're searching for it, you end up tripping over tons upon tons of really good DM/HG fic...so, yeah.

And, of course I'll be sharing. In fact, I'll email you something tonight. But, I am sticking to my "I will not post until it's finished' rule, so, it'll be a while before anything is actually put out for public consumption. And, no, I haven't abandoned my B/A fics. Just, the past couple of years, RL has been excruciatingly demanding. So, tons of work, nothing finished and ready to post, but getting closer all the time

Smooch!

Well, yes, about HBP.

But even though Draco in books 1-5 was 2d, I was aware that there were fans who *speculated* about him being as 3d as he is in book 6, and furthermore, JKR leaves little hints throughout, I think, that there is the *possibility* of Draco actually having a heart and stuff, especially at the end of book 5. But still, I wasn't interested. I read book 6 and though, bet that made the pantyfans happy, and still wasn't interested. I didn't care if he wasn't really a Death Eater or was really scared and stuff, that didn't change the fact that I thought he was a weak spineless little shit.

Now I'm partially ashamed of myself for feeling that way about him, and part of me still *does* feel that way about him. So ...I don't know!

LM/HG! That's interesting. I actually started out in HP fandom way, way back with Snape/HG, which I still really do love. I never got into it the way I got into Jossverse and stuff, but I'd come back to it every once in a while. I mean, it's SO INCREDIBLY WRONG too, so like, I feel you there.

In fact, I'll email you something tonight.

Ah, AWESOME. Thanks so much!

I haven't abandoned my B/A fics.

Glad to hear that, too. And I do have a bunch of stuff I work on but am not ready to post yet, so I know how you feel. I pet you and all your RL demandingness, but let me just say whenever you do post, I'm going to be thrilled to see what you turn out! ;o)
