Attn: H/D fic help

...the whole five of you who would even click on a Harry/Draco fic, much less read one:

I seem to have found . . . 45,000 words worth of a crack, massive, lame, embarrassing H/D WIP on my hard drive that I don't see myself finishing, and yet every time I check it, filled with innocent bewilderment, the word count goes up another 5,000 or so.

I was wondering whether any of the <5 of you could:
a. explain to me how this got on my hard drive,
b. read it and help me,
c. shoot me now,
d. hold my hand and pet it while I dissolve into tears of despair and self-loathing, while not letting anyone involved in Jossverse know,
e. all of the above.

a) because H/D eats your head and causes these things to happen. I was once tempted to write H/D fic and I wrote about two pages and then went to lie down until the urge passed. I am, however, very, very glad that you seem to be giving in.

b)I have never been in HP fandom or anything, but if losing uncountable hours of my life to novel-length H/D counts for anything (or would potentially amount to helpful input) I'd be glad to help.

c) Probably not the best solution, though I understand where it comes from. H/D was my secret fandom shame . . . before I started telling everyone about it.

d) *holds your hand* *pets it* *waits for fic*

I thought about emailing you about it, but the reason I hesitated is it *is* so long and I know you're a busy gal. So yay! March break.

Shall I send it to you? I don't need a beta at this point (because, WIP) so much as I want someone to discuss it with. But even if you want to read it just for like, your own entertainment, I'll send it on over, no strings attached. Lemme know.

then went to lie down until the urge passed.

This amuses me to no end, for some reason. It shouldn't, because I lament the abortion of Hannah!H/D!fic, barely concieved.

b) I met a great gal in HP who offered to beta; she's beta'ing. But I don't know her and I find I want to discuss, like, Stuff. If you don't mind reading something that's unfinished and possibly never will be, I'll send you what I have. If you feel like letting me pick your brain after that, I'd be really really grateful, but of course you can do whatever you want with it. Thanks SO much for offering to help.

c) I have "coming out about H/D" listed as one of my interests; have I mentioned that?

d) thank you :o)

You're welcome! Sure, send me what you've got whenever you want. redbrickrose@gmail.com I don't mind reading something unfinished and I definitely don't mind letting you pick my brain either. I always like talking about H/D, mostly because I don't totally know why it makes me so flaily. It's so speculative, and while I love subtext it seems like it should be almost too speculative for me. Except it isn't because oh, the potential of them.

Hannah said she'd talk about it with me, but I would send it along to you if you're interested in seeing it in it's NOWHERE NEAR COMPLETE state. And then talking about it with me.

I'm reading your Sparrow/Norrington and it's even better than I hoped for! So good! So funny! Wheee!

[identity profile] stoney321.livejournal.com 2007-03-06 11:05 pm (UTC)(link)
I would LOVE to do just that! I also get that some people are protective about their writing, so I won't be offended but PUH-LEASE. I'd love to read your H/D fic, even if it was never finished. I just like your writing, period. And talking about fic? Yes, please!

(Awwwwww!! I can't tell you how gratifying that is. I think it's one of the best things I've written - it has funny and story and swashbuckling and adventure, and I just love that thing to pieces. AND YOU.)

[identity profile] stultiloquentia.livejournal.com 2007-03-06 11:27 pm (UTC)(link)
SEND IT, fer gawd's sake! I've been snuffling curiously in your direction for weeks! Though I *have* been busy, so thanks for confirming....

Wow, that's a lot of H/D feek!

*holds your hand*

I know so little about the fandom, I don't think I would be much help at all.

Except...you should write Ron/Draco. I mean, how well does that work? Really well!

...That's not helping, is it?

♥ Ron/Draco! ♥

This has nothing to do with your post, except possibly accidently, but I have to tell *someone* -

I know nothing of the HP fandom, less about the books and movies, but during Goblet of Fire, I began to inexplicably ship Harry/Cedric, based solely on the the last half hour or so.

*bites nails*

[identity profile] tkp.livejournal.com 2007-03-07 02:28 am (UTC)(link)
Honey. The *director* shipped Harry/Cedric.

Okay, maybe not, but the whole, "Get naked in the bath, Harry, *wink wink*"? The slash, it wrote itself.

Yeah, this stuff just comes out of...I don't know where. But thanks!

Ron/Draco, Harmione/Draco, and Harry/Draco all amuse me endlessly, because I can't decide which hates Draco the most and which Draco hates the most. A fun thing about Harry/Draco is forcing Draco, Hermione and Ron to be friends. Aww.

[identity profile] tkp.livejournal.com 2007-03-07 02:33 am (UTC)(link)
I'm protective of some stuff, but the long stuff, I get to a point where I just want to dump it all over everyone. But then I feel bad about inflicting WIPs on people, so I resolved not to do it any more. I did start posting this one at an H/D archive though, just because I was so "gaaaaaaaaah gotta share!"

I think it's one of the best things I've read by you, definitely, and one of the most true-to-canon fics I've ever read, in the sense that I seriously felt like that could've been filmed and part of the PotC universe. Some bits were frankly better. You've a right to be proud.

[identity profile] samsom.livejournal.com 2007-03-07 02:42 am (UTC)(link)
I *knew* it!

The bubble bath scene, I forgot about that. I kept waiting for Cedric to pop up with a smile and a bootleg bottle of wine.

Too bad he's all dead now. That boy was pretty.

Then you ABSOTIVELY must read Gravidy's "Afterimages" which is, I kid you not, a really well done, absolutely believable fic that is ultimately Ron/Harry/Hermione/Draco. Told from Draco's point of view. It is about as far removed from fluff as you can get, and although the author is primarily a Hermione/Draco shipper, one of the hottest scenes is when an imprisoned Draco, who frelling well loathes and despises Ron, nevertheless gives him a toe-curlingly hot kiss in order to kiss the taste of Harry out of Ron's mouth into his own. Of course, they don't actually end up as friends....http://colouredgrey.contraveritas.com/viewstory.php?sid=1246

As to help with your little H/D problem...can't do more than hold your hand and murmur sympathetically. I seem to have accumulated two novel length DM/HG fics on my own harddrive, along with about half a dozen shorter stories...heaven help me. How do these things happen?

[identity profile] anelith.livejournal.com 2007-03-07 02:49 pm (UTC)(link)
Um... I am very bashful about this, for what reason I know not, but I do love Harry/Draco fic. GOOD H/D fic. And the thought that you are writing an H/D fic is making me very, very happy.

That's all I have to say, because not being a writer? I'm afraid I can't be of much help. Oh! I can do (d) if you like?

Oh, awesome, thanks for the rec!

I seem to have accumulated two novel length DM/HG fics on my own harddrive, along with about half a dozen shorter stories...heaven help me. How do these things happen?

Why, Margot!!! Eeeeeeeeeee! I want to reeeeeead. The thing is, I *hated* Draco, and was disgusted with HP fandom's fascination with him. Then all the sudden--BAM--I don't know how it happened, but I was all over the place with my Draco-love. I *love* to see him paired with any one of the trio, these days, because like I said, he hates them so much, and they hate him.

How do these things happen?

I have no idea. But can I tell you how glad I am they happen to other people, too? Eek. I hope you're willing to share those fics, someday.

I love it. There're Draco fans coming out of the woodwork. I only recently found out about [livejournal.com profile] redbrickrose, myself. I'm very bashful, too, though apparently I've finally come out to my flist.

Even if all of HP fandom turned ended up loving what I'd written, I think I'm happier with knowing a few people I know might read it and enjoy it, if I ever finish.

I can do (d) if you like?

I like ;o) Thanks so much.
