Shameful musical confessions

1. I love that song, Sexy Back, by Justin Timberlake. Almost as much as I love Draco Malfoy but it's even more confusing and twice as shameful. *hangs head; feels alone*
2. I didn't know All Along The Watchtower. And yet I <3 Dylan.
3. I recently got Loudon Wainwright and Warren Zevon mixed up.
4. I love that song, Careless Whispers. You know, the one they play in the dentist's office, the "I'm never gonna dance again / guilty feet have got no rhythm" one. George Micheal, I guess. The one redeeming thing about it is I love the Ben Fold's/Rufus Wainwright version, not so much the original.
5. I didn't know "Because" was by the Beatles.
6. I wanted to use a lyric from "Teach Your Children" for a title of dirtybadreallyreallyreallywrong pornfic.
7. I listened to Pop Goes My Heart on the way to work today and was loving it so much, I was constructing a Angel/Buffy, Angel/Cordy, Angel/Connor vid in my head. About Angel's heart going pop. Yeah. That.
8. In fact pretty much all I think about when I hear songs these days are, would that make a good vid? or: would that work in a character mix thing? I have a really great Irish sea chanty thing by Ween that so needs to be Liam's theme song.
9. I burned a cd for [livejournal.com profile] seraphcelene, but I haven't sent it to her yet. Three months ago I also burned a cd for my s-i-l. I haven't sent it to her yet.
10. I lose at music! I really really lose. I never know what's going on. Unless [livejournal.com profile] stoney321 put it on a Connor mix.

eta: 11. And yesterday, as I was shocked to discover, I don't even own a Sound of Music soundtrack. Huh?

1. !!! Now I am picturing Draco dancing around in his robes, twirling his wand, singing, "I'm bring sexy baaaack" while Snape supplies the "Yeah!"s and techno beat in the background.

4. Hahahahahahahahaha! Okay, okay. I'm sorry. Hahaha!

6. You're so twisted! *is all proud*

11. FIX THAT RIGHT NOW! IT'S SO WRONG! IT CHALLENGES EVERYTHING I KNOW IS TRUE ABOUT YOU!

1. That...is pretty much the scariest image my head has ever created for me.

4. Don't be sorry. I'm laughing too.

11. I KNOW. But luckily my fellow SoM fangirl is already offering to burn me cds...

[identity profile] kita0610.livejournal.com 2007-03-28 12:00 am (UTC)(link)
The only one that shocks me is 11.

1. Me too. I blame Fod. I find that's handy for most things involving my taste being warped.

2. Dude. All Along the Watchtower. Hendrix. How old are you, again?

3. Daki had sex with Louden. That's probably not gonna help you remember him any better. She said it wasn't worth remembering. *G*

4. Me too. I have his CD.- Which, speaking to both 6 & 7, has many baddirtywrong song titles and themes, most of which could be used to vid Angel/Connor, especially Father Figure. With the "all I wanted was to see you naked".

But 11! 11 is SHOCKING, yo!

I go hide now.

1. *feels so not alone, but still shamed*
2. Yep. Too young for Hendrix. But I was raised with Dylan so I shoulda known it.
3. BAHAHA! Crazy. I hope she's sure she wasn't actually sleeping with someone else. I can't believe I mixed them up.
4. George Michael and I are not friends.

11. I was shocked myself. What was crazy is I never even realized until my friend asked to borrow it from me. Didn't even occur to her I didn't have it.

Why are you hiding?

[identity profile] kita0610.livejournal.com 2007-03-28 03:47 am (UTC)(link)
I am hiding because sometimes my porno brain scares even me.

OMG! I am with you about #1!!!! I love that song so much and play it way too much - you are not alone!!!!!

Pop Goes My Heart?!!! So awesome! Whenever I'm down, I'll rewatch the video from the movie and it always cheers me up.

I am shocked about #11 - you must fix that!!!! I was realizing recently that I only have it on tape and no longer have a tape player, so I need to get a CD of it too.

<3 you!!! *hugs*

[identity profile] tkp.livejournal.com 2007-03-28 03:41 am (UTC)(link)
Sexy Back - I just...it's not my style. So I feel all confused and fret-y.

Pop Goes My Heart - I know! It makes me happy too!

Sound of Music - Yeah. I really can't believe, all the time, and I don't have it.

I <3 you back! *squish*

[identity profile] stoney321.livejournal.com 2007-03-28 12:14 am (UTC)(link)
Okay you love Sexy Back because Justin Timberlake is fucking awesome. And that song is pure pop awesomeness. Secondly, you love Careless Whispers with George Michaels because HIS VOICE IS WONDERFUL. And it's so poignant and over the top and wonderful. *loves it, too*

(And here's my secret: I looooooaaaaathe Rufus Wainright. *loses at being a Kool Kid*) I do the "vid" thing in my head, too.

<3
ext_7189: (Default)

[identity profile] tkp.livejournal.com 2007-03-28 03:44 am (UTC)(link)
My problem with both of those is I dislike pop. I really really do. And I don't like the George Micheal version; I don't I don't I don't! Way too cheesy. And too saxaphoney. AND too dentist officey.

But I love Rufus. Or ok. I am falling for Rufus as never having been a cool kid ever I didn't even know who he was until my friend kept confusing him with Gaius Baltar, and only just now am I listening to more of him.

But I still believe in your taste in music because I love so much your character mixy deals!

[identity profile] stultiloquentia.livejournal.com 2007-03-28 12:25 am (UTC)(link)
4. Somewhere along my internet travels I picked up a demented and gleefully *bluegrass* cover of Father Figure by Girlyman. It's HILarious. Not that I ever took George Michael seriously, but...the possibility is gone.

8. Heh, I have so many vids I would vid if I vidded.

ext_7189: (Default)

[identity profile] tkp.livejournal.com 2007-03-28 03:46 am (UTC)(link)
Not that I ever took George Michael seriously

yeah exactly. But I don't know this Father Figure song by title. 'Cause I never took him seriously enough to know any of his songs. Also, though, I suck at music. Like I'm *bad* at it. It's weird.

How many vids would a nonvidder vid if a nonvidder could vid vids?

[identity profile] imnotacommittee.livejournal.com 2007-03-28 01:11 am (UTC)(link)
eta: 11. And yesterday, as I was shocked to discover, I don't even own a Sound of Music soundtrack. Huh?

Wow. Well, that has to be remedied. Which version would you like? Movie soundtrack? 1998 Broadway revival? 2006 London Palladium (I just got this last week)? 2005 Vienna kast recording (in German - it's awesome)?

Certain songs? Movie clips? Didn't I send you that? I know I made one for Liz and Sandra, but I'd be more than happy to send you whatever I have :-)
ext_7189: (Default)

[identity profile] tkp.livejournal.com 2007-03-28 03:49 am (UTC)(link)
Isn't that weird though? The thing is, I didn't even ever think, "gee, I should own that". Like ever! I dunno why! I think because whenever I want to hear the songs I watch the movie. I have like 4 versions of that.

But omg, if you'd burn me one that'd be *awesome*. I don't know which I'd like! The German one sounds cool! What do you think of the one you just got?

Movie clips?

I'm not sure what you mean...you sent me a tape once that had On Golden Pond and a couple other things on it, which I watched and loved very much!

[identity profile] imnotacommittee.livejournal.com 2007-03-29 04:46 pm (UTC)(link)
I shall burn you a plethora of SoM stuff so you can live a complete and fulfilled life :-D

The German one IS cool. Actually, I should say the Austrian one. Oops. Well, it's in German. Anyway, maybe because it's the people I saw in Vienna. The Mother Abbess is the reason I fell in love with Climb Ev'ry Mountain and have since sought it out in as many versions as I could. I never really cared for it in the movie; it needs to be live and chills-on-your-arm-inducing. The one I just got is good. The woman who plays Maria was the winner of an American-Idol-esque show in Britain called "How Do You Solve a Problem Like Maria" I think it's coming to the States, and I will watch it and probably will vote too. Crazy. Anyway, the woman is a different Maria. Her voice isn't nearly as strong as Julie's (but she sets the bar pretty much too high for anyone), but it's pretty, wispy, and you can feel her Maria-eqsue joie de vivre through her vocals. It's charming. But the Captain is a disappointment. Have a manly voice, dammit! (The Austrian Captain is the vocal equivalent of The Boots, btw). But the Mother Abbess, again, is the best part of the CD. That last note must be held for ten seconds. It's amazing.

Movie clips... Sorry! I wasn't very clear. I had made audio clips from the movie years ago and burned them onto CD. I got pretty much everything that isn't a song and is good (that doesn't require visuals). I shall burn them for you too :-)

I'm glad you liked OGP. They talked about strawberries!!!

Don't tell me the lyrics, "I was never gonna fall in love again and then POP GOES MY HEART" don't remind you so much of Angel, you think it should've been the theme song of AtS.

1 & 4. There is no shame in loving perfectly crafted pop. The entire album "Faith" by George "I do boys in bathrooms" Michaels is fantastic. That's right, fantastic.

2. I am shamed.

All Along The Watchtower

by Bob Dylan

by Jimi Hendrix

by U2

by Neil Young

3. In case this ever happens again, just remember: Warren Zevon is still dead (Did you know that two of his albums were just released on CD for the first time ever? I'm really excited about that.)

5. We might have to break up.

10. I obviously have to send you more music. I am a failure.

[identity profile] tkp.livejournal.com 2007-03-28 03:57 am (UTC)(link)
1 and 4: I don't *like* pop, R. I know it's weird but I *don't*. SO you see why it makes me flaily.

So, public restrooms. I didn't know that (looked it up on Wikipedia). You know, I've been trying to figure out the backstory to Careless Whispers and have decided it's a very gay song.

3. No really, it was just a flub. I got disoriented. I don't know how it happened! And no, I didn't know that! Awesome.

5. Here's the thing. My friend gave me this *awesome* and twisted (really effed up) cover of that song, and I was like, huh. That sounds familiar. And then there were chord progressions and stuff that made me think it sounded like a Beatles song. But I didn't remember it at *all*. Was so confused.

10. Hee! Well, this post is actually brought to you by my friend who made me a compilation cd. She knows I fail at music and she finally just shoved a bunch of stuff onto a cd and said here, listen to this. Too bad she didn't tell me what most of the stuff is called or who it's by.

[identity profile] samsom.livejournal.com 2007-03-28 04:31 am (UTC)(link)
I loved George Michael and thought Careless Whispers was so deep and truthful. He was so heartfelt in the video, how could she just run off and leave him like that?? How? He was sorry, he was never gonna dance again...

*sways, lost in the feeling*

Um. What?

[identity profile] tkp.livejournal.com 2007-03-28 04:41 am (UTC)(link)
LOL. You CHEESE.

I never saw the music video. I can actually probably count on fingers and toes the total # of music videos I've seen in my life. Not counting fan vids.

In fact pretty much all I think about when I hear songs these days are, would that make a good vid? or: would that work in a character mix thing?

I have whole CDs of songs that I think should be vids. I make vids in my head when I'm bored. My flist as a whole should be v.v. grateful that I lack the talent and technology to make these vids a reality. *g*

Also - I got your email before I left for Birmingham last week. I'll get back to you with other stuff in the next couple of days! ;)

I'm not so sure I'm grateful. I bet they'd be cool!

And thanks so much. Like I said on the email, it just means a lot someone could read it all the way through! And then still have nice things to say ;o)

Even when you're shamefully clueless, you're adorable.

I kind of like that Careless Whispers song too. He sounds so ANGSTY.

I also think about vids when I listen to music. I have a whole set of vids-to-Paul-Williams-songs in my head. My computer can't handle making them, though, so my brilliance goes unshiny.

I should send you a cd. Of music.

(I really want to make a Spike/Dawn vid to the Mercy Brown song "Handsome and Vile")

I've never met anyone else who has my problem with keeping musicky stuff straight. I've met some who can't keep actors and stuff straight, but everyone seems to know what they're about when it comes to music and I just...*flail*

Only the Careless Whispers with Rufus, though. The other one is just too cheesy.

who's paul williams? LOOK AT ME.

(I really want to make a Spike/Dawn vid to the Mercy Brown song "Handsome and Vile")

DUDE. DUDE, I swear the last time I heard that song I thought of them. I swear. I'm possibly making this up, but I swear. NO! It was JM/MT, I rather. DUDE. And I have another vid in my head for another Mercy Brown song, but it was very wispy, like I got an idea for it and then I lost it. It was the "I didn't mean to grow old" song, the title of which I've forgotten. That's my favorite song on your album. I LOVE IT SO MUCH, K.

Oh my gosh, I'm horrible at keeping up with music too! And I don't have the CD of the Sound of Music either, though my family has a cassette tape of it in our house. And we have the VHS tape of the movie in our house... apparently we need to update more of our technology. =P
As for the other points:
1) I LOVE "Sexy Back"! You're not alone! I turn up the volume whenever it comes on!
5) The Beatles did so many songs, and I don't think that I know half of them. It's quite sad, actually, as I love the Beatles. I think I need to broaden my music knowledge. =P
7) I love Pop Goes My Heart! I have the Music and Lyrics soundtrack on my computer!
8) Oh my goodness, I've seen so many Harry Potter fan videos on You Tube! Sometimes I do think that a certain song goes along really well with a character or a situation. So I know the feeling!
10) Me too. Although, I do love music, so at least that's something, right?
