P.
tkp: So, I get why I watch Bones. I get why Mom watches Bones. Dad, why do you watch Bones?
tkDad: For the pretty--David Boreanaz!
tkMom: Omg! Slash! Squick, squick! Run away!
(tkMeta: Why we slash.
tkFandom: Slash, homosexuality, homophobia, pretty, and trauma.
tkFanom_wank: tkp and tkMom are arguing about sexuality! *takes pictures*)
tkMom: Alright, ok, Angelina Jolie is hot.
tkp: Angelina is peace. No wonder she's a politician.
tkDad: (stuck on Dave) Yeah, and besides being all hot, he seems cool. Like, I don't know what it is about him, but I think he's a cool guy.
(time passes)
tkMom: If they want us to think she's so clueless about pop culture how come she dresses so damn trendy?
(tkFic: *Brennan bashing*
*Goodman!voice smut*
*Brennan/Angela* because ZOMG, it should be written)

*coughs*

U. In other news, [livejournal.com profile] violaclaire had an interesting question about conscience in Jossverse, which I felt I couldn't answer adequately because I know nothing about sociology. I actually know very little about anything, despite the fact that I got a BA and thought I was smart.

N. (Got another rejection today).

J. Moving right along,

Did y'all know that "TKP" are the initials of the Turkist Communist Party? (Türkiye Komünist Partisi (TKP)). Yes, friends, I am on wiki, like any famous fan.

A. Have you read an Arbiter of Quality review? [livejournal.com profile] angelbuffy0 was linking them for a while.
AoQ has not seen and is not spoiled for BtVS, and he's been making his way through each ep one at a time and is reviewing as he goes. He does NOT come at it from the POV of a fan who is already in love with the show, but someone who seems skeptical that the show is any good. As a result, his reviews are often critical. Sometimes he's right--yeah, Bad Eggs IS a lame ep. Sometimes it's vaguely upsetting--I hate his Cordy and X/C bashing. Sometimes you get a chance to feel superior--what, you think Amy-the-rat is a dropped thread? Just wait! Sometimes it's reaffirming--damn skippy "Innocence" is a badass ep! Most of the time, it's just plain fun to watch someone learn what BtVS is all about, how it works on you, how the characters grow and change. I don't agree with about half of his reviews, but I feel myself falling in love with BtVS again every time I read his opinion, whether it's positive or not. Also, he's pretty clever and funny (though ugh! He does take the Cordy bashing too far for his jokes about her to be pleasant.)

B. Meanwhile, in case you missed it, a bit ago [livejournal.com profile] rahirah informed fandom that these titles are off limits. Heed her or SPIKE WILL HUNT YOU DOWN. IN MANNER OF KEN DOLLS AND OZ. watch out the little people can be scary. Mwwahahahahahah!

Don't know what's tickling me more...the P family (oh, Dad!), or that the porny name generator took me to a page that's completely in Russian. Eeep!

Every rejection just means your closer to acceptance. Is that the cheesiest thing I could think of to say? Hell no, but I meant well. *pets you*

The porn name generator IS a Russian page! How spazzy is that!

And possibly the cheesiest thing you could've thought've to say would've been bad for my health, so thanks. I'm just having the doldrums about it.

Sometimes they have so much more chemistry than Booth/Brennan. And I love Angela. And she's is sooo in love with Bones. I was half shocked to see the preview for next week when it was talking about her bf. I was like, but! But her heart belongs to Brennan! But I'm glad it seems like it'll be an Angela-centric ep because there's never enough of her imo.

Hee with the hee-ness! TKPfamily is awesome.

Oh dear, I'm really lame right now, and hungry, which was my excuse for inananity in Kita's journal also and it's still true so I'm off to go remedy that.
ext_7189: (Default)

[identity profile] tkp.livejournal.com 2006-03-23 09:00 pm (UTC)(link)
They are!

Sometimes inanity is what I feel like Kita's journal is there for. It's like a late night party where the host is fabulous, the food is tastey, and the guests are funny. Uh, except the food is virtual which I sometimes forget too so I'm all woozy when I stumble out over her threshold! Uh, "her threshold" sounds dirty right now.

Hm. Interesting porn. I already went through the alphabet. :X

As far as AOQ goes - no one recaps btvs/ats quite like the never-updated-anymore boils and blinding torment.

[identity profile] tkp.livejournal.com 2006-03-23 09:01 pm (UTC)(link)
Mmm, snickers.

Boils and Blinding Torment was one of the first sites I found when I got into the fandom. It was excellent, because I had not seen all the shows yet, and didn't know who all the characters were, and their explanations were so. damn. funny!

OMG, me too! And both my parents are B/Aers. I tried to get them to be A/Sers as well, but my mom get going, "no, they're not gay," and my dad kept going, "well, maybe they slept together once and sure, I totally think they're into banging boys, but that doesn't mean they did it like bunny rabbits back in the day or that they'd do it again." Ha!

[identity profile] anelith.livejournal.com 2006-03-23 03:49 pm (UTC)(link)
I really love the character of Bones because I can empathize with her sometimes. "What are they all talking about?" is exactly what I'm thinking half the time, even if I don't say it... Being a stay-at-home mother of young children means I'm usually clueless about current music and haven't seen a lot of recent movies or TV (Bones aside).

But I can recite a lot of Green Eggs and Ham.

I love your parents!

[identity profile] tkp.livejournal.com 2006-03-23 09:06 pm (UTC)(link)
I can empathize with Brennan up to a point, because I am not the pop culture gal. But I dislike the way they hammer home her disassociation with society/people/culture every. single. ep. It's overkill, imo.

I will not eat them Sam I Am! And I love your icon!

I love them too!

I agree with that, but I it's not something I consider to be a problem with the character, rather I see it as the writers handling that character poorly by attempting to turn "I don't know what that means" into a catchphrase (something they appear to have mostly given up on in recent eps, thank God). I like Brennan. Mostly because I just like her, partly because of the whole disconnected-from-society solidarity thing, but also because I've always loved the whole Anthropology/Archeology/All-Things-Morbid-and-Creepifying, so have the whole envy-turned-admiration going on (I want to be her, dammit! Well, actually I want to be Goodman, but let's not get picky).

I've always been more of a Lorax fan, myself.

Bhahaah I love your icon!

Yeah, it's possible to dislike what the writers do with a character while still giving the character itself the benefit of the doubt, I guess. I se what you mean.

PUNJAB!!! Loves ya...

P. Okay, so your family rocks. Well, except for the watching Bones part. But everything else... When I watch stuff with my dad, he tries to convince me that there's no gaysex subtext in Rebel W/O a Cause. Like, what? He's all, "Plato sees Jim as a father figure." Ever heard of George Michael, dad?

N. (I post all my rejections on my lj. It makes it funny.)

J. I wish I had a pornify button. The T rocks. These people must be really uncomfortable.

B. That was funny. I've claimed "A Good Going Over with a Weed Whacker."

Oops, I missed the U and A. Which means... TKP, we doing this porntastic punjabby fic or what?
ext_7189: (Default)

[identity profile] tkp.livejournal.com 2006-03-23 09:11 pm (UTC)(link)
P. Ha, it's my mom who is so against slashy subtext. She thinks I'm weird for liking pretty boys kissing. Especially since I didn't even know I liked it until like oh, 6 or 8 months ago. But my dad is all, right on! Possibly because I know he secretly likes pretty girls kissing.

N. Not funny but yeah a little cathartic. I dunno, kinda felt like my whole future/what I'm doing next in my life is hanging on grad school, so it's a little difficult to take.

J. Wouldn't it be cool if you had like a pornify button in your pocket, and you were watching something boring or upsetting or something, and you just covertly pressed the secret button and suddenly everyone was having sex? And not really sex but fictional sex where you never need condoms and no one gets STDs and never gets preggers unless they want a kid and are in looooove? Okay, maybe not. And yeah, those "T" people have been aching for well nigh over a century.

B. Bahahaha I saw that! I've claimed "Reupholstry" ;o)

lol AU! Yeah we so need to! I need to email you, huh? we have to figure out how to do this.

N. If your writing life is hinging on an MFA... well, I guess I don't buy that.

J. Except I don't like watching porn. It's boring. I like the idea, and I like reading it (well duh) but the moving pictures do nothing for me.

Yeah.. um... Should we back-n-forth (omg I can't believe I said that, did you see Me and You and Everyone We Know?) it through email or aim or what?

[identity profile] tkp.livejournal.com 2006-03-24 04:29 am (UTC)(link)
N. My writing life isn't, but what I'm physically doing with myself is. I guess what I mean is I really wanted to go to grad school so I wouldn't have to get a job. I AM PITIFUL AND A BUM. I FREELY ADMIT THIS.

J. I've never really watched porn. Really! But I have seen a little bit, really soft core, and it did nothing for me.

Never seen that. I'm not sure how to do it. We should set a date on aim so we can just hash out what exactly we want to do and how we want to do it. Some time next week would be good as this weekend I'm kinda busy.

[personal profile] my_daroga 2006-03-24 05:43 am (UTC)(link)
Next week sounds good, rather ambiguously of course.

I was going to go to grad school. But the more I looked into it, the more I disliked the academic language, specialized vocabulary and all that of lit academes, and I didn't see the point in an MFA, so I didn't. But it would be nice not to have a job.

I tried some old-school porn a few months ago, just to see if something with kind of a plot would help. But Mr. A got really really embarrassed so we turned it off.

redundant for nodnodnod! hahahahahaha!!!!!!

[identity profile] ravenwings-7.livejournal.com 2006-03-23 10:11 pm (UTC)(link)
Yep. Right at the very end of the one where we found out that Hodgins (don't think I spelled that right) is filthy rich. Angela was getting creeped out by her job and Goodman gave her a pep talk, at which point she broke down in tears and hugged him.

I don't know, I was kind of fond of "nightstand", but redundant is oddly appropriate, innit?
ext_7189: (Default)

[identity profile] tkp.livejournal.com 2006-03-23 10:59 pm (UTC)(link)

Eeg. Sometimes my brain malfunctions. Not in this ep, as you have gathered. That was from a fairly early one, actually, perhaps the fourth(?) to air. ::scolds brain::

[identity profile] tkp.livejournal.com 2006-03-24 04:31 am (UTC)(link)
I know! Aren't they so cool? I have to convince my brothers to watch Firefly. They sneer at Buffy because it's called Buffy, but they would be more open to Ff. I got it for Xmas and so my whole family was there when we started watching it, and my older brother wandered in during the first two eps and was ROPED IN even though he didn't want to be. But he had to go so didn't get to see the rest.

There's lotsa squick in this journal I'm afraid.

[identity profile] cordelianne.livejournal.com 2006-03-24 04:01 am (UTC)(link)
hee! I loved reading about you and your family watching Bones together! I like that your dad was fixated on DB because that's totally how I watch the show!

*Goodman!voice smut*
*Brennan/Angela* because ZOMG, it should be written

Agreed, it MUST be written!

yeah, Bad Eggs IS a lame ep. Sometimes it's vaguely upsetting--I hate his Cordy and X/C bashing. I don't like when people character bash like that either (especially Cordy & X/C who I adore!). Re the Bad Eggs thing: over the years I've developed a real love for the episode despite of, or maybe because of, it's lameness. It's this totally ridiculous episode right before the brilliance of "Surpise" and "Innocence". I have such a weird affection for it that I'm thinking of writing an "In defense of Bag Eggs" post for fun.
ext_7189: (Default)

[identity profile] tkp.livejournal.com 2006-03-24 04:34 am (UTC)(link)
And my dad totally things that Angel and Spike slept together, and was trying to help me convince my mom. Except he doesn't think that they boinked a lot. He thinks they maybe tried it once or twice and I'm like oh please. COME ON!

Ha! I would read an "In defense of Bad Eggs" post. In both BtVS/AtS I differentiate between real plot eps and "filler" eps. What surprised me from the beginning about both shows was how much I enjoyed the filler eps, even though they had stupid monsters of the week and oft times lame premises. There so often seemed to be little twists and just the sheer funness of the dialogue make them cool. But "Bad Eggs" is one that just always annoyed me.

And I love both Cordy and X/C too!

[personal profile] my_daroga 2006-03-24 05:45 am (UTC)(link)
Yes. "Bad Eggs" was super lame. In every way. I agree with you on the redemptive qualities of many eps--at some point, the character interaction and stuff will carry you through--but once in awhile there's a stinker.
