Drabble: Slayerfest 2048

Title: Slayerfest 2048
Length: OMG I DID IT! 100 words.
Rating: OMG I DID IT! G!
Prompt: for [livejournal.com profile] femmenerd. Buffy and Faith, affection and snark.
A/N: 45 years post S7. This probably won't make sense unless you keep those shared Slayer dreams in mind.

Slayerfest 2048

"Who's gonna look after them?" Buffy'll ask, looking over the ladies in training.

"Jumpin' ahead, B. Let's be carefree."

Sagging, still blond to bleach the gray, Buffy'll say, "We're sixty-whatsit?-genarians."

"Sexa-. Speaking of sexay, they've got more to learn."

"'Bout Slayage in mini-skirts. But I can't teach that with those veins on my thighs." Buffy will flex her fist, watching Slayers in waiting. "It's their turn, now. You and I," she'll recall, "we've made our beds."

"Yeah," Faith'll agree. "End of the road. But you died, and how many years've passed? Little Miss Muffet can still kick that spider's ass."

Thank you so, so much! I'm all anxiously pleased you liked it because it's my first drabble ever!

I LOVE that when I told you future--you went ALL out.

And the future tense--you are so eclectic, dahlink.

You did it--your first drabble! *claps*

*Psssst* You so *know* that Buffy and Faith as Slayage teachers is my kink, right?

What I always liked about essay prompts in school was subverting expectation. I get a thrill out of twisting the topic.

Not sure the future tense actually worked, but I like all the llll sounds.

I didn't know that was a kink of yours! What's funny is it isn't one of mine. But I like picturing them in their 90s, shaking their canes at the young'uns, and saying, "why in my day . . . we made Slaying hot. Where's the girl on girl vibes, people?"

[identity profile] ex-dovil323.livejournal.com 2006-05-14 07:46 am (UTC)(link)
Awww, that's so sweet! I love that idea!

Thank you. Older!Buffy always makes me feel warm and squishy, too.

[identity profile] lillianmorgan.livejournal.com 2006-05-14 08:16 am (UTC)(link)
Eeeee, very nice. And I had all sorts of thoughts whizz through my mind about the spider - eight-legged demons, weaving time, etc.
Heee the future is there.

Your icon ROCKS. Is is shareable?

Mine? Yep! It's lovely isn't it? :) It's made by [livejournal.com profile] catvampcrazines.

Thank you! Never was quite sure about the Miss Muffet reference in Graduation Day Part II, but I looked it up and it seems like Whedon really meant some things by it! So cool.

I also, like Lynne, love your icon to bits.

[identity profile] 43100.livejournal.com 2006-05-14 09:47 am (UTC)(link)
Omg. Suddenly - I see a world of 80 year old Faith and Buffy's living together with their like, fighting over whether or not Buffy can have cats or not and Angel and Spike being too afraid to play them at bingo 'cause last time the women got so angry at losing they beat the poor vampires over the head with sticks.

And Dawn would so totally bring Buffy cats anyway and Buffy would try to keep them in secret!

Lovely, lovely.

[identity profile] tkp.livejournal.com 2006-05-14 06:31 pm (UTC)(link)
HAHAHAHHA! Yeah, I always like imagining older!Buffy, but suddenly elder Buffy and Faith seemed...so much less bittersweet some how. They'd just be old and cranky together and talk about back before Slaying was this whole fad. And poor Angel and Spike wouldn't ever be able to keep up.

Thanks!

[identity profile] semby.livejournal.com 2006-05-14 01:42 pm (UTC)(link)
Oooooooh! You kicked butt with your first drabble. This is such a creative setting, and I love all the old dream reminders. Excellent!

Thanks! I love imagining Buffy making it to her 60s. Or 90s.

LOVE it. The Little Miss Muffet shout-out made it. That and Buffy still dying the grey. Awesome.

[identity profile] tkp.livejournal.com 2006-05-14 06:34 pm (UTC)(link)
I'd forgotten about Miss Muffet 'til I watched Graduation again recently, and I wondered what it meant. So I went and looked it up, and people were all like, "the counting down from 7-3-0" refers to how many days (two years) until Buffy dies for Dawn.

Whoa.

It kinda blew my mind. Because then I saw Faith as Dawn/little sister/protected but also prophet/guide/protector. And then I got all sniffley.

Anyway, thanks!

[identity profile] lostakasha.livejournal.com 2006-05-14 05:24 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, I loved this. It was perfect ... and the ending choked me completely!

[identity profile] tkp.livejournal.com 2006-05-14 06:35 pm (UTC)(link)
Thanks! And I'm glad. I guess what I learned about drabbles from those who are best at writing them is that the last line or two should pack a punch--so I'm glad that aspect was there for you.

[identity profile] kita0610.livejournal.com 2006-05-14 08:06 pm (UTC)(link)
Very cool. Yay you!

Thank you!

[identity profile] dlgood.livejournal.com 2006-05-15 02:19 am (UTC)(link)
See, I knew it was a twist when you had Buffy sagging. Because old Buffy would still be doing cardio and jassercise and would be too skinny instead of saggy.
ext_7189: (Default)

[identity profile] tkp.livejournal.com 2006-05-15 02:25 am (UTC)(link)
Erm. No matter how much exercise you do, some things still sag when you get older. Nothing stops the thickening of the collagen, and breasts, no matter how small, are just blobs of fat with some ducts and lymph nodes in them.

So, really, not sure there was a twist in there.

[identity profile] dlgood.livejournal.com 2006-05-15 02:26 am (UTC)(link)
Ah. So I totally outsmarted myself. Or outstupided. I'm not sure which.
ext_7189: (Default)

[identity profile] tkp.livejournal.com 2006-05-15 04:46 am (UTC)(link)
Heh. Or, possibly, you outsmarted me, and thought me more clever than I really am.

[identity profile] a2zmom.livejournal.com 2006-05-15 04:56 am (UTC)(link)
I love this. Kind of dreamy, kind of snarky and their voices both on.

And I like thinking their still around, taking names all those years later.
ext_7189: (Default)

[identity profile] tkp.livejournal.com 2006-05-15 05:49 am (UTC)(link)
Thanks! All of that is exactly what I was going for so double thanks.

[identity profile] cordelianne.livejournal.com 2006-05-15 09:25 am (UTC)(link)
Awesome first drabble!!! I love the future tense and the dialogue is awesome! I like the "ladies in training" and "Slayers in waiting". And of course the reference to the dream in Graduation is excellent!
ext_7189: (Default)

[identity profile] tkp.livejournal.com 2006-05-15 04:05 pm (UTC)(link)
Thank you! I wasn't sure the training/waiting thing worked, so I'm glad you liked it!

[identity profile] anelith.livejournal.com 2006-05-15 01:07 pm (UTC)(link)
I love these two together. I know the Miss Muffet reference, but my favorite image is "made our beds." In the episode where that dream appeared it was such a contrast, the two of them comfortably and companionably making the bed together after their fierce fight. Nice to recall it here.
ext_7189: (Default)

[identity profile] tkp.livejournal.com 2006-05-15 04:08 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh! I'm so glad you caught that. I thought there could be a lot to say about that old adage, "we've made our beds and now we have to lie in them", especially since now that I've done some research, it seems to me Buffy's Faith dreams were all about Dawn and her death, and Buffy dying was Buffy finally becoming a Slayer completely. Faith's point is they finished becoming who they really are years and years ago, but they ain't gonna lie down--there's always the fight.

Um, and I'm rambling. Thank you for your lovely comment!

[identity profile] violaclaire.livejournal.com 2006-05-15 06:44 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, I love this. That "We're sixty-whatsit?-genarians." is great--perfect Buffy voice in so few words. And, like everyone else, I love the ending.
ext_7189: (Default)

[identity profile] tkp.livejournal.com 2006-05-17 03:21 am (UTC)(link)
Thanks! And yeah, I had to cut that a lot. And also count it as one word, in order to get her not knowing the word to fit. But I'm glad you liked it! Thanks!

God, old!Buffy/Faith is such a perfect idea, and one I'd never even thought of. Those old animosities fade away, even the guy-killing would seem funny like a weird dream they'd shared, prison-stories would contend with "cold dead seed" tales, it would just be awesome.
ext_7189: (Default)

[identity profile] tkp.livejournal.com 2006-05-22 10:02 am (UTC)(link)
I almost had one of them make a joke about Faith killing people...but I wasn't sure they'd ever actually get *that* comfortable. But cold dead seed stories, ha! That'd be awesome!

Thanks for reading!

LOVE IT! Sexa -- speaking of sexay ...

awesome! I really like the tone and the rhythm as well. :)

[identity profile] tkp.livejournal.com 2006-05-22 10:03 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, thank you! I'm finding it feels easier if writing something shorter to set a very deliberate tone. I wish I knew why that was. And thanks!

[identity profile] kittyzams.livejournal.com 2006-05-28 04:48 am (UTC)(link)
I am lame, well for many reasons, but one of them being that I am so goddamn lazy that when [livejournal.com profile] femmenerd linked to this a few weeks back I actually bookmarked it to read later even though it is only 100 words long. Yay! That's like total and supreme slackerhood, yo.

Anyhoo, I have some sort of OCD about leaving feedback even if it is years later. So here goes, yay! Congratulations on completing your first drabble! 100 hundred word limit? Dude, I could never get there. It takes me like 176.5 words just to tell someone my name. You totally kicked ass, I would have never known it was your first time.

The future tense here was interesting to me. It really gave a dreamlike quality to it. I liked. "It's their turn, now. You and I," she'll recall, "we've made our beds." Ooh! I adore that flashback to the dreams of the past. Cool. I love the thought of Buffy and Faith being all older and cranky and kicking back about old times. It feels to me like all of the tension from their relationship would surely drain away as the years went on. I think they would make good gossip and 'bitch to each other' friends. Wonderful thoughts here! I really enjoyed and I'm so impressed that this is your first drabble. Congrats!

[identity profile] tkp.livejournal.com 2006-06-27 03:26 am (UTC)(link)
Apparently I'm even lamer. You left this comment a couple days before I left on a trip, but I had it all saved up to reply to and didn't (because I'm so goddam lazy) and then when I got back kinda forgot. But I kept the comment notification! I'm a worse slacker than you. I win! Because I have the same kinda ocd about replying to comments. So, thanks!

Glad the flashback to the dreams worked for you. And yeah, I just loved the image of them at last able to be friends--and old crumudgeonly ladies who snarked behind their hands at everyone. I love B/F but I have a hard time believing in them being happy together unless lots of time has passed.

Thanks again.
