Anywhoozle, of course SPN is all about the Faith/Dean, considering that what's I'm writing. ;-) It is also all about the Dean man!pain which is awesome mostly due to the surprisingly excellent comedic timing and dramatic oophm of Jensen Ackles. What's oophm? Um, it's basically bits where Jensen Ackles plays Dean Winchester doing the 'I am the snarky king of the road, no worries hurt me except for [insert most excellent pathos].'
I always rec Farscape as I am legally bound to do so. As a Farscape pimp, I always say these things: They have done everything TV has ever done and done it better most of the time. Also has one of the best TV couples ever</> and did I mention the leather pants?
On the first question you couldn't check more than one, because it was radio buttons. This is why the ticky box, which is the option on every other question, reigns supreme.
I should edit it to femmenerd and regala_electra. I felt like there was this sudden explosion of Faith/Dean and I was all like huzzahwhat?
Is Farscape the one with the puppets? Puppets wig me, ever since I was little. I saw a puppet and got the wig; there wasn't really a story there.
Wow - I've got to get out more - this made me realize how little I know outside my own little fandom cubby. *makes notes* Welcome back, btw - just catching up on flist. Can't wait to catch up on fic as well.
The thing is, I see all these references to other fandoms in my flist, and I have more fun making fun things up about them than actually finding out what they're talking about. Lj is my place where I can be in my own little cubby and pick my toes and practice penetration with my navel.
WHAT?
and hi! Hi hi hi! *swishes skirt in a dance around you*
With LOTR, you have to specify book fandom or movie fandom. Because if the latter, squealing fangirls and hobbit porn. If the former, people who write painstakingly researched gen and obssess over footnotes.
Dude, I didn't even think! Because Stulti's mentioned before how cool Tolkien fen is, but she's of course talking about book people. But I hear "LOTR fandom" and think: hobbit porn! Actually I think LOTRIPS and preternatural obsession with poo, but that's just sad, because Tolkien and me are pals without poo.
Though the LOTR books were some of the very first sources I Mary Sue'ed myself into (I wanted to hook up with Strider. When I found out he was Aragorn I found him far less interesting).
I used to lurk on Tolkien discussion boards in the 1990s. To say I experienced some culture shock when I went to look at communities after the first movie, would be something of an understatement.
I recommended /The 4400 to you then realized that there probably isn't a fandom for this show, or if there is one, I haven't seen it. Oh well, it's an incredible show that no one on my flist talks about. Second only to Battlestar Galactica in our excitement level for new episodes. Ron and I have lengthy discussions on the motivation of certain characters, he's all "Evil, EEEEEVIL," about some of them and I'm "Well, maaaaybe, but you're probably right" and then we're in total agreement about what we'd like to see happen. FUN and complex story arcs.
I remember thinking that show sounded really interesting when it came out. Which is funny because I thought it came out recently and I still had a chance to watch it, and it turns out it's on its 4th season? WHERE DID THE LAST 3 YEARS OF MY LIFE GO? Anywho, thanks for the rec!
House is great completely because of Hugh Laurie. He actually broke a very ill teenage girl's finger in oner episode because he didn't like her! And you still don't completely hate the character. If you'd like to get caught on the show, I designed a poll which lists every major plot ever used on the show.
SPN is completely brainless. I enjoy its take on American myths and legends but there is nothing deep about the show. Two wobies run around killing monsters. It's Buffy minus the brillance. There is some good fic out there, although I read very little of it.
I read HP when a new book comes out and then I never think about it again. Except when the wank explodes.
LotR is a move/book about mythic archtypes. Which was completely appropriate for the story. But who wants to read about cardboard characters?
I'm just not sure I would find House lovable. Did I tell you about the only 5 minutes of it I've ever seen? House was watching a horse race on tv (I assume he had money on it). A girl next to him started seizuring--collapsed on the floor, frothing at the mouth or something. Everyone around was trying to help her, telling others to go get a doctor. And of course, you must know the moral of this story, House was just standing there watching his race. And telling everyone who was helping the girl they were doing the wrong things without giving an ounce of help.
I just have a hard time watching that. Maybe I would get over it, I don't know. I watched a couple eps of Gray's Anatomy and couldn't continue because I felt the doctors were so much more concerned with themselves than saving lives, and that just makes me sad.
I saw your poll! I couldn't take it because of complete ignorance.
I did feel like the book had cardboard cutout characters, which was as it should be. But I felt like the movie added some dimensions--just seeing human faces on some of those characters fleshes them out in the way the books didn't (and shouldn't. I still think Tolkien would point out that the movies utterly missed the point).
I love being multifannish, but it does mean that sometimes things like HP are tempting . . . and that's never good because it's so huge and wanky and terrifying. All our base are belong to them, indeed.
Supernatural is crack, but I don't really think I would watch it without the fandom. I kind of like to watch the show and the fandom in conjunction with each other because I like watching the fannish response to it. With SPN, it's almost like fandom as a whole decided it would be the shiny new thing almost before it ever aired. I don't think I'll ever be really fannish about SPN in and of itself the way I've been about other things because it's not crazy-making for me on it's own.
And I have to rec Farscape, which is the other way around. I don't even really lurk in that fandom, but I have mad, crazy love for the show. It's an entirely different type of relationship to the source text when you're not constantly bombarded by fannish response and analysis. It's interesting. (So I guess it's not a fandom I'm reccing, really, so much as the show itself. Was that what you were asking?)
I'm not really multi-fannish, just one fandom after another ish. I kinda played in the HP fandom in 2001, when it wasn't quite so scary, and sometimes I like to pop back--but I keep my face hidden and skirt the edges because WHOA.
femmenerd says the same thing about why she plays in SPN. I can see that. It's different, but I watch "Bones"--and have developed liking and interest in several characters not played by DB (and even a ship not involving DB)--simply because everyone else is talking about it.
I was interested in fandom recs, which yeah, is different from show recs. Lots of people may know The Sound Of Music, but how many know what a nice comfortable cozy little corner of fandom it has? Or used to have; I haven't really been involved with it in some time. But anyway, any rec for anything is welcome--lots of cool people have mad, crazy love for Farscape, and I really need to try it out!
I have such never ending love for you that it hurts to type the words.
You have popped my name in a poll cherry and paid homage to my refusal to accept the reality that only 5 people on the planet will ever ready my Fed Whisperer fic and for that, I am slave to your communing vagina.
In gratitude I give you this: My favorite line that Angela will never say to Jack: "I thought we discussed this, Jack. No cock. Snatch. Say it with me, no cock..."
That was a fun poll! I am afraid I am the only one who is rooting for the HP fandom though. =P Actually, I can understand why people think it's scary. But I love it because I am a part of it. =)

Note that I checked every single one of the SPN answers except for the boys fucking their Dad, because there are lines in the sand, man.

Btw: Jack Sparrow/Norrington? OMG HOT.
I don't watch 'SPN', but I read a nc-17 Faith/Dean fic just 'cause of the sex. I'm bad.
House = AMAZING. I would pay to get spanked by that cane.

I'd like to start reading PotC fic solely for the sake of Norrington.
I want to read all the Faith/Dean but just can't bring myself because I don't know Dean!
Lots've people say House is great. I really ought to give it a try.
