Title: The Chicks'll Cream
Fandom: Grease, Grease 2
Rating: R, for language/implications
Length: 8K
Warnings: There's an element that might be racially or culturally offensive. I mean it as a commentary, but please let me know if it strikes the wrong note for anyone.
Characters: Danny Zuko, Johnny Nogerelli, Sandy Olsson (Danny/Sandy, past Johnny/Stephanie, Danny/Johnny implied)
Summary: Danny Zuko gets Johnny ready to be next head of the T-Birds. These are the missing scenes you've all been waiting for between Grease 1 and Grease 2.
A/N:
-[personal profile] stultiloquentia passed along word of More Joy Day, and I thought this would bring [personal profile] my_daroga joy. I also hope it will bring others joy, because it is the most ridiculous thing that has existed ever. I've also thought of you, [livejournal.com profile] crazydiamondsue, if you are reading this at all.

-The other thing responsible for this is an overwhelming affection for Adrian Zmed. I don't know what he's really like in person, but I do know when I see him on screen I just melt inside and want a puppy. T. J. Hooker, you inspire me.

Title: The Way Down
Rating: this chapter, pg
Length: this chapter, 8K, see below for WIP info
Warnings: later, there may be sex.
Characters: Harry/Draco, past Harry/Ginny
Epilogue: not epilogue compliant
Summary: Malfoy’s all, “Come out of there,” the way you say to a cat who is badly behaved. And Harry’s all like, “No, what, I’m a hermit! And I have a chest-monster! And I am crazy magically powerful!” and Malfoy’s all, “We all have problems, bub.” (thoughtfully) “You are crazy though. I’ll give you that.”
A/N:

-This is a work in progress. I have this grand plan I’ll finish it if I start posting. Right now it’s 56,000 words. The plan makes it look like it will be 66,000 words. Plans are very deceiving. The plan is a chapter every week. My guess is 8-9 chapters. Did I mention plans are deceiving? Especially when they are mine.

-Constructive criticism is more than welcome.

I changed my username. I am still joy. Dude, joy was the best username ever.

I . . . am not lettered, very. But it was one word! It was available! It's easy to say and has to do with words! Sue me.

I also changed my name on fanfiction.net and livejournal. It will be changed on Archive of Our Own. I also changed my fannish email; all mail from thekorapersonality@hotmail.com will go to letteredlettered@gmail.com, but you can change it in your accounts if you have me as a contact. I also changed my personal email; if you have it you can change it, but everything from the old one will be forwarded to it.

Conundrum

What are people's thoughts on making a fanfic into an original work of fiction and attempting to do something professional with it?

For instance, if you took a Wolverine/Rogue fic you wrote, took away their super powers, gave them different names and different histories, but otherwise kept what words you could of the fic you had written intact?

What if that fic was already posted? Would that mean taking the fic down, or locking it, would removing people's access to the fanfic be reprehensible, would it be in violation of some kind of copyright if the professional thing you were trying to do with it demanded that the work be previously unpublished? What if your fic is on someone else's archive? Do you ask that to be taken down too?

I feel like some people will answer that one should just try to write something new instead of recycling a fanfic for a professional purpose, but I have one or two things that I have posted that . . . were more just using characters in order to say something for me, rather than using something for me to say something about the characters, if that makes sense.

All thoughts and opinions welcome.

New Year

I made this New Year's resolution where I'm going to post my WIPs. Not all of them but I lot of them. I'm going to try to get on a regular schedule or something, and take it slow. The hope is that as I post, I'll work to finish. For instance I've got this one I started in 2007, which I've rewritten once and now am rewriting again. Every time I rewrite it I write more on the end, and now I feel like the end is in sight. Why not just do it?

More on WIPs. )

I really want to change my livejournal name, because tkp means nothing to me. I also want to change my dreamwidth name. I love my dw name. It's my actual name, it's short, simple, and bright like a star. But I'd like it to be the same as my lj name, and I'll never get joy on lj. Plus, if I ever need to hide me, even though joy is relatively innocuous, it's much easier to find then if my username was something that wasn't my real name.

I hate naming things. Anne of Green Gables gave me a complex. I've been throwing around so many names, some of which are cool, but none of which touch me. Oh well, I'll keep looking.

Did I miss all the massive wank about the Buffy Reboot?

Can I get links to moaning and groaning about how horrific it is, and why why why, and seriously why wouldn't they just get Mr. Whedon, and how everyone is going to boycott it, and the letter writing campaign to WB about Mr. Marsters? I want it all!

Maybe I should check f_w.

The Wire

...is over.

What am I supposed to do with myself now?

This is by far and away the best television show I've ever seen. I don't mean my favorite--it's up there, but I probably love BtVS and A:tLA as much. But I've never seen anything as well done as The Wire, and I have this dreadful feeling I'm not going to again.

Someone please hold me.

What follows is an extremely long non-essay on thoughts I’ve thought about the Evil that is the ring, Sauron, Gollum, Darth Vader, the Emperor, Snape, Voldemort, aliens who try to destroy earth or take it over, Angel, Spike, demons, vampires, evil robots, and the Cylons. These are thoughts I’ve been thinking about the archetype of evil, the role of evil in some fiction, the role of morality in art, the role of fiction in real life, and my own personal beliefs about good and evil, and what fiction means to me. I have no idea whether anyone would want to read this; I needed to say it for me.

No doubt it's been said before by people more eloquent than me. That's why I did this post, in order to enable me to speak from time to time, since even though it's been said better, doesn't mean it's not worth saying.

This would not have been possible without [personal profile] my_daroga, Mr. Daroga and Battlestar Galactica. Thank you for making me think about this.

Here’s the problem with fiction. In fiction, evil is real. Like cement. )

So, I really want to do a Pride and Prejudice fic wherein all the Bennet girls are boys, everyone else is the gender they are in the book, and both Mr. Darcy and Mr. Lizzy ([personal profile] my_daroga and I think Lawrence) are gay.

I shouldn't have done this, when I'm now about as much as I wrote behind on NaNo, but I wrote Sherlock and John, plus kissing, on the kissing meme, here.

To be fair to myself, I wrote this on my head on the bus. Then watched A:tLA and Brett!Holmes, went to bed, and transposed it. I do thank whatever Powers That Be that I have this ability; when I think of words to write I practically memorize them, and this sprung from my head fully formed. I figured I would treat myself to writing it, since I usually do not get ideas which are short; my other Sherlock ideas have all been far too long and then curtailed by my strict sense of "ahhhhh no time!"

Today I had to watch this video in order to do my NaNoWriMo word count.

Also, I learned the difference between botanical nuts and culinary nuts.

The other not as weird part was to look up (again) rivers in the Underground.

There was also reading of Sherlock Holmes involved, mostly A Study In Scarlet.

Oh! Hahaha there was also Saussure, but I'm pretty sure I'm taking that part out.

Characters: John, girl!Sherlock
Summary: Co-ed means compromise. Apparently.
A/N: Thanks ever so to [personal profile] fulselden for the Britpick (and spellcheck!). Also, I didn't believe in Sherlock-POV fic until I read [profile] wordstrings; doubtless she is an inspiration.

New comm

Not something I should be doing while I'm supposed to be writing. Especially since I called in sick today. But! Maybe if I build it, they will come, which means I won't have to sustain it. It's a cool idea; I just have trouble with follow through.

Over on livejournal, I started a comm called [livejournal.com profile] daily_words. It was supposed to have a new word every day. Trouble number one: I suck and didn't keep it up. Trouble two: I have trouble remembering the new words, even when I'm making posts about them. Except for stillicide. How could I forget stillicide? That's a good 'un.

So, my idea was to make a mirror comm, [community profile] daily_words, but with a twist. It's actually a drabble community! A word gets posted once a day, and then if the word strikes you, or you really want to remember it, or the mood just is all upon you, you write a drabble using that word somewhere! And the drabble can be original or in any fandom. And possibly the drabble doesn't even have to be a drabble; possibly it just has to be short prose of at least 50 words, or a short poem.

Once DW gets that thing where you can put in posts and tell it when to post them, it might actually be plausible to keep the thing going. Another alternative is to ask people to volunteer to post words for a week/month/or day. Hm.

NaNo Update

Maybe I should make a filter, because this is bound to get annoying. Or possibly I should post only to myself :o)

I decided to copy [personal profile] fulselden and try some prompts on [livejournal.com profile] 31_days. What I really wanted to do was make myself write little short things every day so at least I'd be finishing things, but when I started writing this I realized I really want to write this as a novel, so this is probably bad for me.
