I had no idea your birthday was today! I almost missed it! Or I did miss it, in your neck of the woods . . . punctuality is the bane of my existence.

I really actually *can't* count the ways, but here are some reasons [livejournal.com profile] lostakasha really doubleshots my mocha:
1. You have a sense of humor that is flagrant, unashamed and devastatingly forthright. You say what you think and you do what you please, but you never make the mistake of taking unserious things too seriously.
2. You write thoughtful, meta-heavy fic that makes me see the characters in new ways. You write fic thick with metaphor and ways of phrasing things I never would've thought of. You write really hot fic, too. Sometimes (often) you do all three at once.
3. You keep on truckin'. You smile when you can, and your chin is still up when you can't.
4. Brillo balls.
5. You love with enthusiasm, and throw yourself into things you're interested in, and you have *fun* with your inner fire. I think that's so very important.
6. You metatate with me! Sometimes I wish I could sit down in a room with you and mine your brain for all your interesting thoughts on Buffyverse characters, and then all your thoughts on any other characters ever, and then on writing or living or watching grass grow. 'Cause with you, I bet even that would be interesting!
7. I could go on!

Sliding in just under the wire (my time, which is a cheat), but I hope you had a happy birthday, [livejournal.com profile] dlgood. I owe many things to you: a very cool experience in Galveston, some enlightened perceptions regarding Buffy, Angel, and Angelus, and some good laughs and nods-along at your humorous and/or insightful posts. Not to mention owe-in-a-different-way that brochure, the best cookies ever and fb! But I hope today, you had cake, and got sung at by some very rowdy people with hats, and got at least three presents. With bows. That someone made you put on your head. And someone else took a picture of. A sombrero and complimentary flan at least? If you got a pony instead, it would be okay too. Hope it was good!

At the end of 2005 I decided that for 2006, I was going to put into my memories every fic I *really* enjoyed reading.

I failed miserably.

The times when I remembered to put a fic into memories where haphazard, random, and strange. Half of the fics listed below weren't taken from my handy-dandy memories list; I hunted down because I remembered them. As a result, every single one is from my flist, because with the ones off-list, I couldn't even remember who wrote them, much less where to find them (among fics I remember truly enjoying, but can't remember where to find them: there's a What Spike Did With Angel's Ashes piece, a Brink of Apocalypse Spike/Angel, in which Spike brings help from his poetry slam, and a truly creepy Firefly in which use is made of Inara's needle).

Anyway, this means most of you have probably seen the majority of these fics already, so it might not actually be useful to anyone. If it looks like I favor some authors--some of you are on there five or more times--it's because I totally do, not 'cause I like them as people (though I do) but because I totally pantyfan their writing. But my spotty organization also means that these are by no means the only fics I really enjoyed--it's just what I happened to have when push came to shove. And there are so many fics I plan on reading from 2006 that I haven't gotto yet (haven't done my holiday fb festive thingy--dude, I suck), that I can just *feel* I'm going to love.

If nothing else, it can be a Big Damn Supplemental Feedback List.

In the end, what I want to get across is a big ole THANK YOU. Thank you flist, for writing fic. For keeping at it and keeping me entertained. Thanks for making icons and graphics and vids and meta and creating. Thank you for reading and reviewing and pantyfanning and loving. Thanks to everyone not on my flist for being there and mysterious and wanky and slightly scary and yet attentive when I want to poke around and funny when I want to laugh at you. OMG THANK YOU, everyone. You made last year live-able.

Hey! I'm still not really here! But I wanted to do a fic-I-wrote-this-year post, at like, the end of the year, and I wanted to include this little bitlet and for organizing purposes wanted it to have it's own post. So, you may or may not have already read it. It originally appeared in [livejournal.com profile] entrenous88's hot hot hot! thread, where she asked for ficlets about characters dealing with the heat. Different feeling in winter, I guess! Also, I gave it a title and edited.

Merry Christmas to all who celebrate!

Thank you so so much to [livejournal.com profile] ros_fod for the lj virtual gifty, and anon. for the other virtual gifty (who are you, zomg!). I just love that 'cause I never got any before and it's such a surprise to see them whenever I open my user page! And thanks to [livejournal.com profile] chrisleeoctaves for the card, and [livejournal.com profile] imnotacommittee for the card and vampire captain! And thanks a bajillion to [livejournal.com profile] kita0610 for the chocolates--you found the way to my heart (well. The other way is through vampire porn. The other other way is through my superior vena cava. And stuff.)

Um, no one recieved anything seasonal or holiday-y from me. But, if I have your address, please don't think it's weird if you recieve a really random gift in January or February or March. Or anywhen. 'Cause I meant to do some stuff and didn't have time. 'Cause, hey, you know what? I GOT A JOB. Yay me! It's a sucky job because I sit around, but good because I sit around--still don't know if I can go online, but I can write, and read. And that's important to me because professional goals and personal preferences and grad school and also lots and lots of fanfic all involve writing and reading. So, that's what's been up with me!

That, and I got a Claddaugh ring for Christmas. I am SUCH a cheese. You could cover it up by saying, oh, it's a nice piece of jewelry and blah blah blah, but you'd be wrong. The ONLY reason I wanted it because I'm such a sappy B/Aer, and every time I look at it I think of that stupid stupid dock scene and get such a freakin' happy.

Love to you all, and have a fabulous rest of your year.

Holiday!

DAY TWO OF RANDOM METAPALOOZA.

Do you ever feel like you need to write a fic before you can write a fic? I've heard a lot of people say as much and I'm curious about the phenomenon. )
lettered: (Default)
There are things that happen in fiction that just don't happen in real life. Harry Potter turns out to be a wizard, Horatio Hornblower raids a fort with six guys and a grappling hook, and kicks ass, and in a fanfic, Xander Harris gets pregnant and has Clem's babies. But that's not the kind of don't happen I'm talking about.

I'm talking about the little things, the little fantasies of *all* fiction, everywhere. Particularly about the little, everyday fantasies that pertain to communication, to interpreting our fellow (wo)man. And how even these tiny, everyday fantasies address a need in the audience. And in humanity. It's all very very hearts and stars and flowers. *sniffs* )

[livejournal.com profile] violaclaire's a jolly good fellow.

I wish I was better with birthdays. I wish I was better at keeping in touch! Which shouldn't be hard on lj but it *is*. I have your IWRY fic saved up to read and I look forward to it. You rock like a gravelly object, the Beatles, that Hudson guy, and also that Oliver guy if you want to get all Sharon about it; the pun was "Stone" there; like a Rolling One. Alright so that doesn't make sense, but I wish you frosting, candles, a badly sung song, and a talking tree. Because who doesn't want a talking tree? I feel that you would, particularly. This is just my feeling, not a judgment on you. Well actually, it kinda is, but it's a good thing, really. At least, you know, in my opinion. The opinion of the one I am.

Title: Conceit(s)
Rating: NC-17
Pairings: B/A. Very B/A, except it's all about Spike. The ending is B/A/S.
Summary: This used to be titled, "5 Ways Those Bluggy Birds Never Shagged", but Spike decided to make it eponymous.
A/N: Warning for experimentation with style, POV, voice, and uh, reality. Take it with a grain of salt, I guess.

Part of the IWRY Fic Marathon.

Hi I'm sort of alive!

So this past week has been pretty crazy. If you posted something chances are I didn't read it, but don't link me to it now 'cause ... I still won't be able to read it.

But I'll be ghosting about, and should be back regularly by next week. Then I can read the rest of the IWRY Marathon stories, reply to emails, read fics, leave fb, and dump wild and crazy meta on you that's been stewing forever, and possibly also that cracktastic Spangel thing.

But for now, lots of family and lots of food and lots of stuff and lots of driving later, I have those strange intersections of family, friends and fandom to share. TKFamily Holiday Hijinks )

Can you tell me what you mean when you say "bite the big one"?
And is it different from "bought the big one"?

Does either one mean to die? 'Cause. I need to make a fish joke.

101 Kinks

The word "kink" is being used in the loosest sense: these things strike a chord with me, or push a button, not necessarily in a sexual way (though some of them, yeah.)

The word "fictional" is literal. These are things I enjoy reading about, or seeing on television, etc, not necessarily things I enjoy seeing or doing in RL.

I've been collecting them for a while now, again, no idea why. I have a kink for list making? It's not because I'm bored. I'm not bored not writing my IWRY fic, and not betaing the things I have to beta, and not having started my novel thing, and not hopping on that volunteer highschool kids writing thing I want to do, and that job I was going to get, and...The weirdest thing I discovered while writing it? I could go on indefinitely, infinitely. I have so many more fiction kinks it's not even funny. Oh, and some of these may be pretty freaky-deaky to you. So ya know, don't read if it's more than you're interested in.
